Nevertheless, in presenting this scripture in English, in which there do not presently exist firmly established conventions or familiar cultural bases for expressing Buddhist ideas, it may be helpful to the understanding of the scripture in translation to discuss some basic terms. Due to the volume of the scripture, footnoting individual occurrences of technical terms would call for a great deal of cross-referencing.
